Primary

music

The early years are the important years.  Young children's brains are creating neural connections so fast!

Children cannot begin to experience music too early.

Keep an eye on this page to see what we are doing in music classes, and why.

Learning music should be fun.  In the primary years, we like to trick your kids into thinking that is all it is about, as we play games, sing, listen, play with puppets and stuffies and move to music.

We have ulterior motives though.  You can expect your child to subconsciously be learning...

  • social skills

  • self-confidence

  • leadership

  • critical listening skills

  • gross motor control

  • use of imagination

  • identification of patterns

  • development of memory

  • turn taking

  • volunteer their own ideas

  • and much more!

and musically...

  • keeping a steady beat

  • the difference between beat and rhythm

  • aurally identifying pitches and intervals

  • preliminary rhythm and pitch notation - reading, writing and performing

  • discovering and exploring their singing voice

  • sing or play alone

  • introduction to the use of instruments

  • improvisation

  • many traditional songs and games

  • develop part-singing skills

  • and much more!
